I'm really glad that he found this by himself. It's good for him to know that he has the ability to go and do this kind of thing. If they don't already know about his diagnoses my advice would be not to tell them ... at least until he has got offered a permanent position. Then, if he's been offered a position they can't withdraw it without making prejudice obvious. Still, check with folks who know UK law etc. I've told the employer I work for voluntarily, and it's fine, but of course, she's not paying me. And I am certain I'd not dare tell someone else. Seriously, there are a lot of people I meet on a daily basis that I would shrivel up and die about if they ever found out!
I'm managing from half nine to half twelve three days a week. If this works out it's perfect, if it's not perfect, don't worry, he'll still find something. I don't know why, maybe I'm basing this on my own unhappy work experience, but I just want to let you know that what is important at this stage is his effort and ultimate recovery. If it doesn't work out now it will do later.
