I don't have any advice on your situation with your daughter. Do you have the option of staying in a physical rehabilitation/therapy facility until you can take care of yourself?
About your living quarters...might there be an opportunity there to help some of those older folks out? I'm sure some of them must be dying of boredom and loneliness. I'm talking about after you've recovered from your surgery of course.
