Celebrities serve their purpose in society. They have the unique and singular ability to bring the bright spotlight of momentary attention to an issue, and remind people of very important things. Things that many would rather not think or talk about.

Even celebrities who's causes we don't necessarily agree with bring about a discussion, a conversation with others, to figure out whether there's anything to their point of view or such.

So I have to agree that while it may seem tacky or something (I don't think it is at all -- I think it's a perfectly acceptable use of one's fame and recognition), it really isn't when the underlying reason is to try and prevent more such abuse in the future (or convinces one person to go get treatment for an eating disorder or something else that some other celebrity discussed in a magazine).
