I thought this was a really valid question I never thought much about. For me I did this on the job. I was a very visible clerk having to see everybody on the job and tons of visitors. Most days it was excruciating! Like one of the other members said here, most times when she thought she was being "normal" she was told (and for me I always looked back and KNEW) I was acting "weird". Ditto!
You may have mentioned a twist: isn't it thie same when you're doing this to your pdoc or therapist? Then I go, "Oh, man, who am I foolin'? They're TRAINED to spot this kinda stuff!" That I laugh at myself and it doesn't bother my. however - to emphasize - I believe it's critical to our care to be honest and authentic with our heathcare team no matter what. Over the years, I worked to follow that advice. Why prolong any misery?
