Another time, I invested about $4k in a bunch of worthless stocks and eventually lost 90% of that money when all the stocks fell. Another time, when I was single, I spent over $1,000 over two days on hotels and hookers - fortunately I didn't catch anything from that experience.
Now days, when I go hypomanic, I tend to buy books that I think I'll read through and learn everything I need to know from. Technical books, self-help books, Programming books - you name it. Now I got shelves full of books Ive never read and will never read most likely.
On a related topic, anyone want to purchase some books on JSP and XML programming? They're only a few years out of date and the covers look really cool!

I bought gold too (in 2007) while manic! YES shiny and cool! I bought gold stock which I still own as well... I still have the gold pieces and of course now I just wish I'd bought more! Also traded in my sensible Volvo for a loaded pre-owned Mitsubishi Eclipse. (Shiny cool silver color). I still drive it and I do love it, all except for the cigarette burns on the driver's seat which occurred while I was chain smoking and wildly gesturing while driving...( I don't smoke anymore). I also bought lots of clothes, purses, accesories and make-up. Oh, and I spent money on travel, airfare, rental cars, hotels. It's taken time but I was able to pay everything off without consequences. But truth be told that manic spree was loads of fun and at this point in time, with the depression I'm experiencing, it's the one thing that makes me laugh when thinking about it.
