My therapist says that Bipolar is just a name for a cluster of symptoms. She says it doesn't define you, it's meant to be used by your doctor to be able to treat your symptoms. You are NOT "bipolar", you are a person who suffers from Bipolar disorder. Just like if you had arthritis, or asthma, or used a wheelchair, those things do not describe who you are, they are secondary.
As for being on meds, no one really wants to, but I guess to me it doesn't seem any different than having to use my inhaler for my asthma or having to take pills for my migraines. I want to be able to breathe, I don't want to be throwing up and in agony, I also want to be as mentally stable as I can be. It's taken me awhile to accept that I might need meds for that but I'm becoming used to the idea. I hope I continue to see the improvement I have so far......
