It's hard to describe. Whenever I take a breath that's even a bit deep, I get a somewhat painful, very uncomfortable sensation right at the bottom of my throat (if I had to point to it, it would be at the bottom of the neck, right at the collarbone. It's not a surface sensation, it's occuring inside the throat). Whenever I get this sensation, I sometimes get an urge to cough, but EVERY time I feel quite nauseous! This very troubling to me, since vomiting is one of my biggest fears.

I still also have the pain on the left side of my throat whenever I swallow. Has anyone experienced this? Should I be worried? Any replies would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Hi I do have this problem but I also have difficulty swallowing food it has to be blended, even then I cough quite a lot to clear my throat.
I had thyroid surgery back in 96 and I've always had to swallow like 3 times per 1 mouth full of water,I thought it was just scar tissue but now everything gets stuck in the centre of my collar bone just beside my breast bone.
Have you ever had thyroid trouble? Or surgery on or around the throat or neck?
I have had an endoscopy and barium meal where I had to drink a chalky substance, the dr asked why I was gagging when I was swallowing the liquid but I informed her its the way I always swallow and I was not gagging or wretching. However I also have fibromyalgia and ME which affects the muscles so this could also be a reason for my swallowing and breathing difficulties.
But I must add previous to surgery and my long term conditions anxiety played a massive role in my breathing and I often felt as if my throat was closing up especially during anxiety attacks.
I would suggest a check up at the drs for a look at your thyroid and glands before worrying to much,I know its easier said than done.
Other things to consider of course is are you on any medication new or old that has these symptoms as a side effect?
Please let me know how you get on but try not to worry and get yourself for that check up
Take care
