The breathing problems during sleep can be sleep apnea. It is a tendency to pause in your breathing when sleeping and it can even happen if you are deeply relaxed while reclining. If you have it you may also tend to snore, or to sound like you are snoring (almost choking?) as your body tries to start its breathing up again. It is also something specific and medical you can ask your doctor about.
