Tell him I had that surgery back in the day when they laid you wide open! My incision goes from my left side to the right!! Now the incision is quite small! Also tell him that I'm a smoker and overweight and I came through it just fine so there's no reason for him not to, too.

Something else you can do is turn the question around to him. If he's got real fears, he'll talk it out.
