A situation like that is unfortunate because no one can see clearly the situation they were in until they leave it. They cannot see the reasons why they need to leave or the ways in which they can escape until it's all been said & done. Just try to relax & remain supportive, but anything you say will either be discounted or viewed negatively, even though it may be in good faith.
