I'm glad you're getting some help! It's also fantastic that they organise counselling so quickly for you!

I probably shouldn't give drug advice, as I'm not a pharmacist and drugs have slightly different effects on different people, but I can comment on Citalopram:

Citalopram is one of the newer (relatively) speaking SSRIs, which target the serotonin receptors specifically, which means that side effects are minimal if you have any at all.
I've been on Citalopram for almost ten years (with a short break earlier this year) and I've found that the tablets work well insofar as they hold the worst off and I have no side effects from them whatsoever! Saying this, you'll probably have a few minor side effects for the first few days or week such as more difficulty in sleeping, feeling a bit dazed and / or tired and possibly a bit nauseous but they vanish after a week at the latest in my experience.
Personally, I'd think that the benefits definitely outweigh having a few side effects for a few days, but obviously monitor if you react to them slightly differently with your doctor.

I'd definitely give it a go. They tend to work pretty quickly: although it takes a few weeks until they unfold their full effect, you tend to feel calmer almost instantly after taking them.

Good luck and keep posting, Nerdosaurus!
