I'm not sure exactly what it is. About a week and a half ago, I spoke to an NP that works at the mental health clinic I go to. I couldn't talk to my pdoc because he's away.

So anyways, I'm talking to the NP about increased anxiety and restlessness, and I guess because of restlessness she mentions "extrapyramidal symptoms". She asked if I ever tried Cogentin and I told her I've tried these types of medications but they don't help.

So in the end, I left with the same prescriptions I am already on.

I looked up on the internet and I found out through my "internet research", that all 3 of the psych medications I'm on (Clozaril, Lithium, Xanax), can cause akathisia.

Right now I'm just doing my best to manage until I can see my pdoc, but I don't have an appt till 9/21.

I'd just like to know if anyone has any advice on how to proceed.

Here's the list of meds I've tried in the past for EPS that didn't work:
  • Cogentin (benztropine)
  • Artane (trihexyphenidyl)
  • Inderal (propanolol)
  • Benzos - Valium, Ativan, Xanax
  • Klonopin - causes paradoxical reaction

Thank you very much,
Andy
