Welcome to Psych Central, Solitude. This is a pretty great place.

I've had severe depression for 15+ years and am also a cutter (15 years). Yes, at times the depression does seem to make everything worse, but all we can do is try to get ourselves through those dark patches. As long as we make sure we survive those, I think we'll be ok.

With the changing of meds and therapists, I can see how much rougher your depression can seem. Other than cutting, what kind of coping skills do you have? I was thinking that some distracting techniques may help you out. Basically, anything that gets your mind off your depression and anxiety would help...cleaning, reading, writing, etc. Exercising also works because it releases endorphins, the good-feeling chemicals in your brain.
