Whoa! PTSD is caused when trauma isn't properly handled in the brain when a traumatic event occurs, the brain chemicals dump and prevent the event from being filed away like most memories.... thus it sticks around consciously and the habits we build in trying to work around it reinforces it's strength.
Telling yourself you should get over it is one of those myths that help keep PTSD in place. No, it's not something you decide to have or not. If that were so, you wouldn't have chosen to have PTSD or to keep it once gotten. 
The good news is that once you begin to retrain the brain in how to file the trauma memories away, it will begin to do all similar memories left unfiled and you won't have to go through each and every event that hurt you.
