I do a simular thing called Biofeedback - slowing my breathing and heart rate when having a panic attack. and it does work. I think you might like nerofeedback once you start doing it. and there is nothing saying you have to continue doing it if you are uncomfortable with it after trying it. I say its worth a shot.
