I agree with Advena.
Alcohol and anxiety don't go very well together and I say this from personal experience. Initially, when I got very used to drinking alcohol on a regular basis it had this calming, relaxing, anxiety-dampening effect on me as well, but I gradually became aware of how dependent I had become on alcohol when I had a huge problem to be without alcohol for a single night. I would sneak out to the corner shop to get a bottle of wine.
I'm not saying that you're going down that road, I just know that it can be a slippery slope, especially when alcohol becomes a means to an end.
I would definitely talk to your doctor / therapist about it and try together to find other, more constructive means of dealing with anxiety.
