Most of the smilies I use are from the same half dozen or so. When I'm looking for a different one I open the [More] window and maximize it (and wait a minute or two for the images to finish loading ). Once they're all there, I can either eyeball them and choose by appearance or use the "Find in this page" feature of my browser to search for something in the name.

Some names come in different versions: there's :rolleyes: and :rolleyes2:

Some similar-sounding names go with very different smilies -- :headbang: and :banghead: for example.

I'm not sure how much good it would do to classify and group smilies. For me, half the fun is rummaging through them and seeing what-all is there that I might still want to use someday.
