Hi, welcome to PC.

I was DXed with Bipolar and ADD mild, after a "meltdown" 6/7/yrs ago, first thing, was treatment, concentrating on the Bipolar(which runs in my family) before addressing the ADD.
The pdoc(s)felt stabilization was most important, then said they would help address the ADD, that technically has been my problem since childhood, proof was how different things were after taking stimulants (diet pills) while in college, concentration and focus was amazing, making "honors" twice in a row. I barely got through elementary and HS, when it came to math, especially.
Okay, enough of me, I digressed, as usual. What I did, last year, I told my pdoc, and reminded him, of when was he going to help address the ADD, I've been stable and only need minimal mood stabilizer? Before he answered, I told him if wasn't going to help me, then direct me or refer me to a pdoc that works in that area in the group.
Amazingly, he agreed and started me on Concerta, slow release, less risk of extreme up and down thing as the med wears off. His main concern and my former pdoc's was the wearing off end, having the possible effect of extreme, dangerous depression, that had been my main issue with this so called Bipolar DX.
Hey I accept both DXes, and go with treatment,it's working, so why mess with a good thing,eh?
If I were you, I would do what I did, and put it right up front/on the line, whilst still letting them you know there are many people with dual DX and even more.
I also said to pdoc, if there are 2DXes here, and only one DX is being treated, that is ineffecient, you have 2 things, treat both and possible true "balance" in the patient's life can be achieved. I explained I'd never know if we didn't give it a try, he actually told me I had an excellent point.
This was not a manipulation thing, it was more about being heard and assisted in further possible progress that can be made.
I wish you luck, I know how frustrating this can all be.
I'm surprised you pdoc doesn't realize a person can have Bipolar and ADD, guess she needs an update on her education.
Again, I wish you lots of luck with this.
Take care,
DE
BTW I forgot to mention, drop by our Bipolar and even the ADD/ADDHD, you may get additional suggestions and other's experiences with this.
