I started an outpatient Suboxone program 10 weeks ago. Their policy is to require up front payment for services from everyone. I am lucky to have good health insurance that is covering completely. So far, I have paid almost $500 out of pocket. The treatment program received reimbursement from my insurance company over the past month for all services I've received. It's been two weeks since the final check was received but I have not been reimbursed anything. I've been given several different timelines by the program's biling department, the most recent being "7-14 days to process reimbursement."

My question is, "how can this even be legal?" The program has had my $500 since the first week of August. My insurance began reimbursing in mid-August and was up to date before the end of September.

I understand that it is the program's perogative to require payment before providing services, but how are they able to just "hold" my money AND the insurance payment?

Has anyone heard of this before?
