Visioneer,
I recently had true mania exactly.. "one" ..time, after hypomania and my diagnosis was changed to Bipolar I. Having Bipolar I doesn't mean you have more episodes per se, however the diagnosis is stating that you have had either mania, mixed episode or psychosis, as part of an episode.
Here is what the Pdoc is suppose to go by to dx Bipolar II:
DSM IV criteria
Criteria for Bipolar II disorder in DSM IV are as follows:
A. Presence (or history) of one or more major depressive episodes
B. Presence (or history) or at least one hypomanic episode
C. There has never been a manic episode or a mixed episode
D. The mood symptoms in Criteria A and B not better accounted for by Schizoaffective Disorder and is not superimposed on Schizophrenia, Schizophreniform Disorder, Delusional Disorder, or Psychotic Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.
E. The symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
Lastly, Regarding this comment, by you:
>>>>I'm also not diagnosed Bipolar I, but II/NOS because I have some more severe characteristics not usually associated with II, but less often and less severe than would be diagnosed as Bipolar I. Thank goodness for that, too.<<<<<<
I find your enthusiasm offensive. You may want to be just a tad subtle when you're posting on a forum that does have members afflicted with Bipolar I.
Thanks
