I can totally relate to this, I used to be a member of another mental health forum (I wont stipulate which) where I was getting treated really badly.
Nothing really too in my face, there was never anything posted as such where one could point at it and say "see". Yet as time went by I started to feel more and more damaged by that site, some of its members and some of its moderator.
The hardest thing I found was knowing that the site owner had been accused of sexually harassing some of the members. The police were involved but nothing could be pinned on him, at that time my loyalty to the site owner led me to stand by him and offer support where I could. Yet little things kept slipping, and I started noticing that he only ever responded to the damsel in distress type of threads, his comments were often sexual in nature.
I even discovered a post he made where he stipulated his address for 'members' to 'confide' in him in a more private setting!
The day came where I started a thread complaining about the nasty comments being posted about men in general.
The site owner moved my thread and stated that his site members were mostly female and that I needed to be mindful of this. I can't remember his wording exactly, but he was basically telling me to clear off.
Obviously, I left, it had all become too much for me to cope with, it damaged my faith in mental health support forums, until that is I found the strength to find somewhere else to rest my slippers'n'pipe.
Like yourself, I am over-joyed at having found this site, I really didn't believe such a place would exist on the Net, but here I am, restin me tootsies.
