I wouldn't worry about tornadoes if you have mountains around you.

We've got rain here today. Wish if it was gonna be like this, we could at least have some lightning and thunder to make it exciting. I've HAD IT with all this rain!

Oh! If you have cable, watch the weather channel. It will tell you if you should watch for tornadoes. If not, then you can probably look up your local weather on the computer. That failing... then the radio? For me, it's better than not knowing! That's what's a killer for me.
