Hi FloatLikeAButterfly,
Good for you for opening up to your parents, to anyone. It sure is hard. I know what you mean. But you know that you can't do this alone, that you need help. That is important to realize.
My own parents have gone through a whole spectrum of emotions over the past three years. At first, they were defensive and couldn't really hear what I was saying. My mom thought I was blaming her. My dad told me I needed to exercise more. Sometimes right off the bat, they are incredibly worried and don't know how to handle it. But I hope that's not the case... I really hope they are able to hear you and are willing to help you get the help you need! Hang in there, though, if they can't really hear you just yet. Trust yourself and keep trying...
One thing that (I think) helps is to go online and look for the symptoms of depression that you have been experiencing and print out a few pages. One good site is Mayo Clinic. They list the symptoms including the symptom of "loss of interest" and "thoughts of sui*". Sometimes it's helpful with parents to have paperwork with a reputable name of a hospital for them to look at to say, "look, this is a real medical problem and I am having 10 out of these 12 symptoms. Can you help me find a doctor/therapist?"
I want to send many hugs and supportive thoughts to you. It is important to reach out. Whatever the response, you are doing the right thing.
