nmr, I do have a few thoughts:
First, the quizzes are screening tools, not diagnostic tools...don't get too freaked about the answers.
Secondly, a significant percentage of ADHD patients do wind up with BP at some point, but I do not know what the figure is.
Thirdly, if you've been treated with antidepressants for a number of years without any real results, BP is a real possibility.
Fourth, bipolar is a very manageable condition...if it hasn't ruined your life already, you stand an excellent chance, with medication and therapy, of living a very normal life.
So what am I saying? Basically, from what you describe, it sounds like there is a good chance that you do have bipolar disorder. However, only a psychiatrist should make that diagnosis. So make an appointment with your pdoc...it's very common to be treated for depression before a BP diagnosis is made... 2 - 8 years is not uncommon. Live a healthy lifestyle, regular sleep, excercise and a good diet are extremely important.
Most important is to realize that this IS something you can manage...bipolar does not have to be a debilitating condition. Keep a positive attitude, do what your pdoc says, don't freak out...you'll be OK.
Hope this helps,
DJ
