Will your friend be okay? That's a traumatic thing to have to deal with. Now, you're talking about internalized messages blaming yourself, right? Not other people telling you that? Blaming yourself for things is one of the traits that goes along with depression, and probably part of what causes it (one of those vicious circle things). That you can recognize what is happening and that it really isn't your fault is really good. Then you can start to change those thoughts.
