Sky is right about having 3 days to cancel an order in the U.S. They make it so blasted hard to contact them though. They probably won't send you a phone number or postal address until the 3 days are up, or respond to email. They use autoresponders.
I've done the same thing only worse. Late one night when my resistance was weak, I clicked on one of those ads to get a free laptop computer. I think it was an ad on this site. Anyway, I can really use a free laptop computer. So, they said all I had to do was respond to some offers from their sponsors since the way it works is the sponsors save money by having the buyers go to them and they save on advertising. Okay, so I went to the first screen and had to select two offers. They had a bunch of book clubs, and I found enough books that I was interested in or could use, so that was okay. The second screen had more book clubs and BMG, and I found more books and some music that I really wanted. The third screen required more expensive purchases. One was Discover card, and they were offering a 0% interest rate for almost a year on transferred balances, and that was something I had been thinking about doing anyway. But then there were things like insurance I didn't need, and a genealogy service that costs almost $400 for the minimum commitment, .... Nothing else that I needed or wanted, but I was so close. I picked the least expensive thing on the list, which was Vonage. They only required a one month commitment after the set-up fee. But they rejected my credit card because there was only about a month before the expiration date. I already had the new card, but hadn't activated it yet. So I activated the new card. I was so close to getting my free laptop. Activating the new card inactivated the old one, which caused my BMG signup (the one thing I really did want) to be rejected. That also meant that I didn't qualify for the free laptop. And there is no way to contact Vonage. They automatically bill my card every month, and calling them to cancel just gets a maze of computers answering the phone that is impossible to get through, and they don't respond to email, and I never found the time to send snail mail. I never even installed the thing. I didn't want it. Only got it so I could get a laptop computer.
I think they have finally stopped billing my card. It's been a year. And the bookclubs are still sending stuff, and one of them didn't record my payment when I ordered several books and they sent them in two shipments. I had paid for them all at once, but they billed me again for the second shipment. Now debt collectors are calling me about it and I haven't had time to look up my statement for my card (online) to prove that I paid. It stinks. Even if I did get some books that I wanted anyway.
I have plenty of experience with impulsive and stupid, and that's not nearly the worst of it.
