I think your 'gas' pumps work differently to ours here in the UK - when I fill up my car it's like a gun, with I guess what you could call a 'trigger' underneath that you grip to make the fuel come out. I don't think gripping the handle would cause you not to be able to pull out the gun/nozzle/whatever... (Can't you just tell I know what I'm talking about?!) I'm just happy I figured out how to open the fuel cap on my car!
