Some types of piercings bother me, so I'd probably have difficulty looking at them. That's my own thing though.
I briefly had a therapist who had tats, the stretched earlopes, and some piercing that didn't bother me. I was surprised when I saw him, but that seems more typical of young people these days, so I figured as long as he was good at what he was doing it didn't matter. I guess I must be old and stogey now because I have a preconceived notion of what a therapist should look like, and I guess it's a bit conservative. As long as it's a good fit chemistry-wise, so to speak, and they're able to help me with what I need, I don't think it matters much.
He seemed like a good therapist, but I was looking for a dbt therapist to work with my dbt group to practice and reinforce those skills, and he wasn't at all versed in dbt. He seemed like a good process therapist though, I did have to give some thought about switching.
