I use it all the time. Hypnosis is just totally relaxing your body. Sometimes the person does it on their own (self hynosis) and sometimes they do it with a therapeutic type professional. All hypnosis regardless of doing with a guiding professional in a sense is called self hypnosis because the person must be willing to relax. a person cannot be made to do or say anything they would not normally do, when they are totally relaxed.
Hypnosis is also called relaxation and visualization techniques. My own process I put on relaxation non vocal music and then I imagine laying out in the sun and the sunray traveling from head to toes relaxing and warming my body, muscles and organs and so on.
My therapist and I are right now using the Belleruth Naparstak relaxation visualizations. I also use the nancy J napier relaxation/visualizations included in her books and on her website is other relaxation while remaining aware exercises called weekly practices in conscious living, she also has relaxations that she calls walking meditations.
