That doctor you dealt with sounds like a real control freak. I'm really surprised she did that to you. It just sounds very irresponsible to allow someone to go off psych meds cold turkey. If you end up hurting someone or yourself, such as getting into a car accident, and it can be proven that your lack of meds was a contributing factor (not a stretch by any means) I don't see why she would not be at least partly liable. Sure, doctors have liability insurance for exactly these kinds of situations, but I'd definitely file a suit and make her premiums go sky high. She sounds like a nightmare. I bet she drives an obnoxious car w/ some totally stupid vanity plate.
