i have had both..& i think it's just the luck of the draw & the breed. some are just more affectionate than others...my female chessie didn't care for me but was my shadow.

my 'stumpy" is more of a women's dog & not so much towards me...but the other 2 girls will throw themselves at anyone who looks at them..young, old, both sexes..it's just like people...some are just more partial to certain things.

i think if they are rescues of any sort too it depends on their history.
