Are you allowed to decorate or bring in any personal items, or not? I've read that really does help if you can. My extreme sympathies, really. To where just coming in in the morning, looking at the same dam hallway, made me want to scream. I couldn't stay at the same job more than a few years.
One of my colleagues is very artistic, so he draws us "views" on the whiteboard in a shared inside office. For awhile it was an ornate airship, and now it's a scene with a lake and a train going through a tunnel along the shore, and a little waterfall with a bridge going over it, on the other side of an island with little pine trees. But then someone else drew a freaky cat-looking-thing in the middle of this nice peaceful scene.

Another colleague loves to decorate. She puts more decorations on her desk than I have ever put up in my house. She decorates for every holiday, with lights and tinsel or whatever, and it's quite a display.

Fortunately we have leave to decorate our office spaces however we want, but with a dozen people packed into a room the size of two faculty offices, it's always a balancing act between individual expression and shared space.
