I believe it does matter, yet I realize I cannot "make" you believe. Time and experience may grant you a more fulfilling perspective on life.
This is important. You should trust your assessment. Are you in a position to enlist a counselor or doctor to help you get a hold on your situation?
It's possible they have no personal experience of your kind of depression. They may have problems or defects of their own that prevent them from being empathetic toward you. Unfortunately, many people with clinical depression cannot depend on their family or friends for the right kind of support.
