While changing after a party this weekend, my best friend saw the scars up my legs and began to ask about them. She knows I've been SI-ing for years but thinks I managed to stop- that's what I told her when it began to get really bad about a year and a half ago.
She was quite drunk and couldn't see how fresh some of the cuts were (and her eyesight is bad without her glasses anyway) and I lied through my teeth, telling her they were all old and healed up. I can't bring myself to tell her that I'm still struggling with it. I think it's mostly because it would upset her anyway and now even more so that I've been lying to her for so long. It's for her own good really but it's really getting to me that I can't tell her of all people.
I know other people will have been faced with this, and I'd love to hear if and how they dealt with it.
