GPs can be so insensitive. I went to get my meds (antidepressants) evaluated, and my dad insisted on coming with me to make sure they 'listened' to me. Well, I also had a rash on my wrist at the time, so I asked if she could prescribe some cream for it -- so what did she do but grab my sleeve and pull it right back, exposing scars up my arms, THEN, just in case my dad hadn't noticed, she said, in a tone I didn't care for, 'have you been hurting yourself?' Gee, thanks. Not awkward at all...
