a lot of doctors also do that for insurance purposes. my doctor told met that I'm bipolarNOS because I don't quite fit in with the diagnosis of BP1 or BP2, but I have a mood disorder. She said that if I am NOS that it is easier to get insurance to pay for treatments. Once labeled under BPI or BPII, they may be stricter on what is available to you.
This is just from my experience, though. The best way to find out is if you ask the doctor.
