you can get psychotic/mildly psychotic with bipolar. My pdoc believes bipolar is bipolar and doesn't care about I, II, III etc. I went through a period of paranoia that all bathrooms had cameras... they didn't! i checked! I chose not to use antipsychotics because i knew i was just being paranoid and irrational and took comfort in that, same with hallucination type stuff - i knew they weren't real, not true hallucinations, i didn't believe them and they didn't cause me to completely withdraw. they went away.

however, knowing my brain was out of control was terrifying and i feared for my life, that i would do something stupid. ended up checking myself into an outpatient psych program for three weeks to just help learn to manage.
going on six months psychosis free!
