Actually, you are not the first to advise against Norton. I have infact just finished uninstalling it and installing McAfee. I ran a scan and a number of infected files were found. Even though I cleaned them, McAfee says no action was taken - but that's another days bother.
Perhaps a number of issues that I have had will lessen now that Norton is off. (Speed being one of them).
I will bookmark avg just in case this McAfee doesn't come to the party.
