I'd like to share with you my first ever Pdoc appointment. I was very nervous too. However, it turned out to be quite entertaining. At the very start of the appointment he was sitting at his desk and accidentally kicked over a couple of 2L sodas he had stashed under there. He nervously looked up at me. I didn't think anything of it-I knock stuff over all the time. The session went smoothly-I wasn't pressured to go into my past. Then at the very end I went to open the door. He reached for it the same time I did. So I pulled back to let him open it for me and at the same time he pulled back to let me open it for myself. So I reached forward agian to open it, thinking he was going to let me open the door, but at the same time he reached forward to open it yet again. This happened 2 more times. Finally he put his hand on the door and left it there, and said "I'm really sorry about all of this".

I think I said "no problem" and allowed him to open the door for me to leave. Talk about awkward! I thought it was hilarious though. I was so nervous but I think he was more nervous than I was. He was a new pdoc and it was the very start of his career. I ended up seeing him for 8 years and he was wonderful and we had a great rapport after two socially awkard (on his part) sessions.
I've found most pdocs to be a little socially awkward, but for the most part they seem to have their heart in the right place.
You'll be fine!
