It sounds like he is wishing to control your whole life; that you are not to have any dreams or ideas for your own life. I would leave him; he has no say in when you want to get married and his comment about not needing to work/buy books because you'd be married to him is very condescending. Now, with his having another woman over during his "break", he does not sound very reliable or interested in you being your own self, living your own life.
