The increased dose should reverse the sleepiness. It seems counter-intuitive, but that's the way this drug affects the brain's histamine-receptor complex. Up to a point, a higher dose does lead to increased drowsiness, but once you get past that point, an increase reverses the sleep-inducing effect. Your husband should already be noticing a difference, but he may feel it as something more like increased irritability. As if the sleep he is now getting is of really poor quality. If that is what he's experiencing, Remeron may not be a suitable drug for him to continue using.
