>>what about Red Dwarf? wonderful escapism for depression sufferers!

Yes, I only "discovered" Red Dwarf relatively recently, last year or two or so. Don't see it around here anymore so I had forgotten how clever and funny it was.

I think my biggest problem with Dr. Who isn't with the show, just my experience with it. When I was growing up Dr. Who was on one of the local stations but they kept varying the times on weekends... seems like they used it to fill time between movies of different lengths. So it was hard to catch regularly. That in itself wasn't so bad, but it seems like everytime i did catch an episode it was ALWAYS part 3 of a 4 part story. So I never saw a complete "episode" all the way through and never knew what was going on in the story. Years of that left me with an ingrained aversion that I have never been able to shake.

I was luckier with Blake's Seven. I remember seeing the ads on the local public station (this was much later than my childhood experience with dr who), and wanted to watch it even though it looked very much like dr who and i didn't think i would like it. i watched anyway and was immediately hooked. which was extra strange because i picked it up in the middle of the run, so at that point there were no longer 7 characters and there was no one named Blake . I stuck with it and watched through the end and back to the beginning eventually picking up the whole plot.

I saw Paul Darrow (Avon) at a sci fi convention once, appearing on the bill with William Shatner, what a strange combination of on stage personalities. Paul Darrow was one of my favorite guests ever at a con, along with Leonard Nimoy. Everyone else seems to just repeat the same routine every visit. George Takei ALWAYS told the same story about the toilet paper in the Marriott hotel across the street .
