Wisewoman, I avoided this thread for a while as I was so triggered by a program on dogs and Katrina that I watched the other day. My curiosity got the better of me though.

You did such an amazing thing - I am so sorry that it did not entirely work out. But, having said that, I reckon those dogs knew the goodness, love and kindness you offered.

I really do hope that your little male is on the mend.
