Sometimes I'll put my hand up near my face so I can feel that I am breathing. Other times I think through breathing. In my head I'll go "air into nose. Air out of nose". And try to focus on feeling the air in your nose, notice that your stomach moves. I still find it hard to do this when my anxiety gets really high but I find practising when I'm calmer helps me remember what to do when I'm...not calm
Have you told your dr about the result of xanax? Perhaps a lower dose would work better for you.
