I don't want to take meds (I've seen PLENTY of people walking around like zombies, and I've told friends to "just put me out of my misery" if they ever see ME like that) I just wonder if there's any good alternatives...
Another problem I have seeing psychologists is that as soon as I tell them I was an alcoholic (10 years clean and sober now) they seem to automatically assume it's alcoholism NOT ADHD ("trust me, if I was still drinking as bad as I used to, I wouldn't BE here right now" is what I'd like to tell them, but THEY'RE the "experts") and they try to talk me into rehab, either that, or they think I'm "just trying to get a disability check"...another problem is that I'm (for lack of a better word having been through addiction) "addicted" to all the "bad for ADHD" foods (sugars, starches, chocolate, caffeine, etc)

Nothing is wrong with you. You have a set of gifts and a set of limits by nature.
And what stinks is that it's rare to find a shrink that is ADD that can relate. So they can only guess and they guess poorly and for that we pay money?
There's a missing element to consider...why won't society at large allow you to be you? Why do you have to conform? And you know you're intelligent and that's the problem with conformity...you see that there's too much stuff you're expected to "be" that simply doesn't make sense.
The only wrong with any of us is the difficulty in seeing the big picture. The environment around us leads us to think we are handicapped.
