Because it can become addictive and all addictions eventually need higher levels to get the same effect. The healthier thing to do is work on your feelings so that you don't need SI to feel better. Feelings are normal, even negative feelings. Cutting yourself to deal with feelings is not normal or healthy. Learning how to be emotionally healthy is the better thing to do.
