Justbyyou, based on what you've detailed it's clear you need some help to kick the habit. Whether or not you need an inpatient structure or not is impossible for us to say given the few details. I do find it hard to believe your therapist has not suggested trying a anti-craving med first (or has she?). You can do a search in this "Addictions" forum for meds to counter your cravings. I've mentioned baclofen in a post but Madisgram and others have also detailed many others that may also be effective-but as alcohol is not your problem, there may be other drugs more specific to your addiction. Baclofen has been used effectively to counter cocaine cravings, so it's worth further investigation and you should definitely get your therapist in on your research.
I would not rush into a detox center unless your health is currently compromised; I think a check-up with your physician would be a good suggestion before anything. Honestly, I would really try a low-level, outpatient approach first (that is, with an anti-craving med), coupled with NA meetings. I've found AA meetings very helpful in my recovery and from what I can tell, an addiction is an addiction is an addiction. There is no reason to panic about your situation. However, it is important to explore all possibilities with your T before jumping. Good luck.
