Have fun! I love Florida. I stayed at the Holiday Inn on Sanibel Island back in 1997 and liked the hotel. It's right on the beach but the decor was simple, clean, not too fancy. I had a room with a little kitchenette that had a coffee percolator so I could have a simple breakfast right in the room. Of course this was quite a while ago so it may have changed since then.
The Sanibel beaches are
lovely and it's a great place to look for shells. There is even a shell museum. The only drawback with the island is that it's quite small and the roads are narrow. So sometimes in season it can take forever to drive from one place to another. As you probably know with Florida during the winter, sometimes it is balmy and sometimes it's chilly. You just never know. I went one year and wore T-shirts and sandals the entire time. Then a few years later I had to walk the beach each day in my wool sweater. But there will still be the ocean, salty air, sea birds, shells and the lovely clacking sound of the palms. Yay... Enjoy.
