Well, you could tell her that you did start the job and your machine was not working right and you have more gathers than desired as a result. You can tell her that the holiday distractions kept you from getting it straightened out, and that your really sorry about the delay.

If you talk to her and go over what she wanted done do you think you can start over and do the job?

Your doing your best and I have found that people can be surprisingly forgiving. Try not to assume the worst, you had good intentions. Now if you truely don't think that you can recheck what she wanted and finally do the work, then perhaps appologize and let her find someone else to do the work for her. You can always say that your machine is acting up and you don't want to take a chance on creating more errors because of your machine.
