Try writing them down as soon as you wake up.
I did that then brought them to T's and we talked about what they meant or represented for me.
Three o'clock in the morning I was scribbling down whatever I could remember and the feelings it brought up. (fear, anger sadness)
It helped.
PS I forgot to add, she had me change the endings, so they became nonthreatening.
There is a name for it, image rehearsal or something like that.
